for immediate release .
september 28, 2001. religious extremists intensify reign of terror in georgia .
tbilisi, georgiaearly this morning religious extremists mounted a city-wide orchestrated attack on jehovah's witnesses, who were traveling to their annual religious convention in the adjacent city of marneuli.
Hi Teirce,
"Give the JWs this inch, and they'll take a mile. It might be time here to distribute the maturity of the DNC principle, so these Georgia types, bless their southern-fried soul, don't have to tax themselves to come up with a non-violent solution that plays into the JW perpetual motion machine."
Unless I am mistaken, the Georgia referred to is not the State of Georgia in the USA. It is the one over somewhere in Russia.

i have, in my hands, a copy of the service report from the 2000 wt bound volume.
it's very interesting to note that, although there was an average of a 2% increase worldwide, the majority of developed countries actually had a decrease.
the usa gained 432 publishers after devoting 174,594,349 hours to recruiting, i mean preaching.
I think you're right about the circuit size. I was at an assembly in Toronto about 15 years ago, and it was about $15,000 for the weekend.

The problem is that other methods of spreading their message might cost THEM money. The millions of hours spent is done at the expense of the rank and file. They claim that they spent $64.5 million in 1999, but there is no way of auditing how this was spent. In my 30 years as a JW, I don't remember ever seeing any money flow back into the congregation.
Consider this: There are about 90,000 congregations worldwide. If each one contributed on average $100 a month ( this was what our congregations always seemed to do), on top of the "donations" for literature, and the KH building fraud (I mean fund), that's $108 million a year extra. And what about the money that comes in from assembly halls. In my area it would cost $5000 a weekend to use the Assembly hall. Where did this money go? It wasn't being used to pay the mortgage, the local congs. that used it were doing that monthly. It wasn't to cover the cost of property tax, since they are exempt. To pay the utilities maybe? Subtract $100. And these halls are used almost every weekend. That's a lot of cash flow.
But like I mentioned, it's up to the average JW to pay out of his own pocket. (Remember when magazine subscriptions actually came in the mail?

If you figure half of those were children who were born into the JW's who became active, that's 808,307 hours required to bring in one new member off of the street. Not very efficient, in my opinion.
The big gainers: Cambodia with a 32% increase (from 25 to 33 publishers), Gambia with a 25% increase (from 88 to 110 publishers), Mongolia with a staggering 88% increase (from 8 to 15 publishers), and Norfolk Island with a 23% increase (form 13 to 16 publishers).
Although the USA remained stagnent as far as growth is concerned, Canada, Australia, Britain, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland all reported decreases.
Interesting!

my name is dan.
i've been dropping buy here occasionally since the summer, so i figured it was time to introduce myself.
my background:.
I first grew a beard about 10 years ago while I was still attending the occasional meetings. I had a #2 talk coming up (no more public talks for me at that point!) and I was given the ultimatum to shave the beard or I would not be allowed the grand privilege of delivering the talk. I kept the beard, and was permanantly removed from the TMS. So, I guess it worked out great after all!

Hello all,
My name is Dan. I've been dropping buy here occasionally since the summer, so I figured it was time to introduce myself. My background:
-born into JWs, active for 30 years, MS for a while, then had enough.
I've been out of it for about 7 or 8 years, although out of curiosity I sometimes drop by sites like this to see what's going on.
Here is something to think about: Read Leviticus 19:28. For years this was the justification for banning tattoos among JWs. Then read the verse before, where shaving off your beard was forbidden. Why then, are the JWs so adamant about not having a beard? This double standard is typical of the "picking and choosing" which scriptures to enforce, and which to ignore. Whatever! But, what really gets my goat is the hypocracy of knocking on people's doors and condemning them for doing the same thing.
Any thoughts on this?
Dan
Besides that, what did you think? I thought it was pretty good.

hi all, would just like to say a quick thanks to all the regular posters on this board, please dont think for one minute that your hard work in unmasking the borg is going without notice.
lurkers read here and think subconsciously about all info provided and sooner or later it all dawns on them (like myself),,,, so once again thanks.. now, what my question is, do any of you guys know some real good scriptures from the bible that are really weird/gross/unethical/murderous ect ect?.
the reason being is that there are quit a few that i know that think the bible is like a nice smelling rose and seem to forget that there is also a really strange and dark side to it that really doesnt make any sense.
How about the scripture where Moses states that he is the meekest of all men?
